News - Dash Optimization Sponsors Lecture Series at University of Florida
This semester Dash Optimization will be sponsoring a lecture series at University of Florida. The purpose of this lecture series is to expose University of Florida students to a variety of different speakers with industry experience in the Operations Research field. The second speaker in this series is Michael Saunders. Dr. Saunders will be presenting on February 15, 2007 and will speak about:
Optimization Algorithms and Software at SOL and UCSD
Michael Saunders, Systems Optimization Laboratory (SOL), Stanford University
Some well known software packages have been developed at Stanford and UC San Diego during the last 30 years. They include algorithms for sparse linear equations (SYMMLQ, MINRES, LSQR, LUSOL) and various optimization solvers (MINOS, NPSOL, PDCO, QPOPT, SpaseLoc, SNOPT, SQOPT). We give a personal history of these codes and some of their scientific applications, including optimal trajectories for aircraft, spacecraft, and autonomous vehicles.
Michael Saunders is a Research Professor in the Systems Optimization Laboratory at Stanford University. He obtained his PhD in Computer Science at Stanford in 1972 (advisor Gene Golub). He is known for his contributions to mathematical software. He teaches a class on Large-scale Numerical Optimization.
