News - Radical modeling approaches

Radical have been providing customers with the most responsive supply chain modeling software CAST since 1989. In 1998 they started to offer optimization within CAST to complement their existing heuristic solution techniques, and in 2002 they made optimization standard in CAST. The optimization is implemented using Dash's Xpress-MP modeling and optimization components.

This paper, written by Radical, was primarily aimed at Radical's customers, explaining the benefits behind optimization, and how it compares to the heuristic approach with which they were all familiar. It provides useful definitions of the heuristic and optimization approaches in the context of supply chain network configuration problems, and describes how the two techniques can be used to complement each other.
