ODBC I/O module

ODBC is a protocol for working with databases as external data source. It can also be used to access data in spreadsheets such as MS Excel. However, with spreadsheets some restrictions apply since spreadsheets do not implement the full functionality of databases, especially for writing data into them.

Within the Mosel language the user may employ the ODBC I/O driver mmodbc to access external data sources in a preconfigured setting, that is, using the same commands as if data was read from or written to simple text files. Alternatively, making use of the full functionality of the Mosel module mmodbc he may formulate his own SQL queries within the Mosel language to perform more specific data handling tasks.

ODBC drivers are available for many database/platform combinations. mmodbc provides an interface to these ODBC drivers, it does not contain the driver itself. Some software ( MS Access, MS Excel on Windows ...) include the drivers in their standard installation, with others you need to install the driver separately.
